CHATEAU FERRAND POMEROL 2020-Chateau Ferrand
This shows aromas of plums and blueberries with milk chocolate, hazelnuts and crushed violets. Some crushed stones, too. Full-bodied with firm tannins that continue to build up throughout the palate. Deep core of ripe black and blue fruit. Chewy and tight, this needs some time to settle together. Lingering finish with hints of blue flowers.

Medium-bodied with a good core of red fruit and lightly firm, nicely integrated tannins. Fluid palate.

YALUMBA THE CIGAR CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2O18-Yalumba
This offers dark fruit and good depth, from a vintage that has delivered really expressive fruit aromas, in the dark-cherry, violet, wet-stone and blackcurrant spectrum. The palate has a very intense, powerful core with dark-berry, plum and chocolate flavors. Crisp, fine tannins. Drink or hold.

A racy, perfumed nose of ripe berries, dried thyme, sweet cloves, dark chocolate and some lard. Full-bodied with tight but mealy tannins. Structured and layered, with a long, pretty sleek finish.

Apricots, grapefruits, crushed stones and juniper berries. It’s creamy and medium- to full-bodied with juicy stone fruit and citrus. Lovely dry mineral notes to close. Drink now.

Lots of ripe plum and fresh flowers on the nose follow through to a full body with layers of fruit and polished yet chewy tannins. Sort of dusty texture. Flavorful and delicious. Transparent.

A very pleasant Sangiovese here with red and black berries and a hint of perfumed chalk. Hints of fresh mushrooms, too. Medium-bodied with lightly firm tannins and a tight, fresh finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

VILLA DONORATICO BOLGHERI 2020-Argentiera
A chewy and rich red with blackberry, blueberry and chocolate aromas and flavors. Full-bodied. Lots of fruit and tannin structure. A little rough-edged now and needs three to four years to soften. Drink after 2025.

GRUMARELLO CARMIGNANO RISERVA 2016-Tenuta Di Artimino
A full-bodied wine with fine tannins and attractive cherry, milk-chocolate and cedar flavors. It’s chewy, yet polished and pretty. A little tight at the end, but delicious. Drink or hold.

A cheerful, laid-back nose with ripe and brambly fruit, red cherries and grilled herbs. Medium-bodied, fruity and pristine palate with lovely dryness. Fine-grained, fresh tannins. From organically grown grapes. Enjoy now.

SAINTAYME 2020-Chateau Saintayme
A gorgeous red with so much black fruit and salty, mineral character. It’s medium-to full-bodied with creamy, polished tannins and a long finish. The precision and fine texture is impressive. One of the best I have had for a while.
